Job flexibility enables me to combine family, farm and job
I’m a dairy farmer and the vacancy in Taranaki came up when I rang World Wide Sires to order some semen. I hadn’t thought about working off the farm until that point but the flexibility of the job appealed as it’d mean I could manage the family and the farm. That was back in 2014 so it’s obviously worked out!
I love the flexibility and am able to work around the kids. No farmer wants to see you before 9 am because they’re milking and having breakfast and not after 3 pm because they’re back in the shed which leaves me free to get the kids to and from school and help-out at home on the farm.
The job comes with perks – the biggest probably travelling to America.
I might be working on my own in Taranaki but have daily contact with the team; they’re a great sounding board as well as being good mates.
