About Us
WWS NZ was set up in the early 1980’s to market bovine semen and now imports semen from the USA, Germany, Denmark, Spain and Australia. World Wide Sires' bull power is undeniable with owner - suppliers, Select Sires and Accelerated Genetics, having over 50% of the U.S. artificial insemination market and sampling nearly 600 bulls per year.
In addition to bull semen and embryos, WWS offers value-added services such as the World Wide Mating Service. WMS is a scientific program, which utilises advanced computer technology to improve the cow and take the guesswork out of mating. Based on individual farmer breeding goals, it evaluates over 16 traits on each animal and will guard against inbreeding and recessives. The program is the World’s largest and most successful mating program and last year over 4.6 million cows in 40 countries were correctly mated with WMS.
The past few years have seen some exciting advancements in breeding technology. WWS has the most extensive list of sexed sires available in the industry with more sires being added on a regular basis. Farmers across the globe have used sexed semen to boost profitability by providing surplus heifers to boost the bottom line. An added bonus is the reduced incidence of calving problems which can be costly and who could say no to semen that will produce 90% or more heifers.
Genomics is the latest buzzword in the industry. WWS is very active in the use of genomic technology to identify more superior young sires, which will help us to provide NZ farmers with better genetics every year. The addition of genomic data provides more information and sire summaries with reliability that is higher than ever before.
